A Big Green Egg

We went out for non-perishable tailgate supplies yesterday afternoon and came back home with a Big Green Egg.  So...anybody have a Big Green Egg?  Any advice?

  1. We've had one for about 12 years. My advice, take a BBQ class. A lot of good BBQ restaurants offer them. Jeff spent an entire day learning how to cook everything about 5 years ago, and now he uses it so much more than he ever did before he took the class. We had a retirement party for one of our friends a couple of years ago and he smoked 3 briskets for 100 people and we had NO backup plan. But we didn't need it, everything was perfect.

    1. Good idea...we used it for the first time tonight w/ pork chops. They were delicious but I'd really love to learn to smoke briskets, turkeys, etc. Or...rather, I'd love for Hank to learn to smoke briskets, turkeys, etc.

  2. I have no idea what to do with it--it's all Jeff's thing. He does the Thanksgiving turkey on it and it is fabulous. Plus it frees up the oven for everything else and keeps him busy!

  3. The BGE is a wonderful tool. And while you will learn alot at a BBQ class, there is a wealth of free information on the internet (and the learning part is fun, for me at least). I have had an Egg for 3 years and just love experimenting with it. Of course you may make some mistakes, but I think that's the best way to learn. I have even started a website about the BGE, check it out if you'd like. http://www.biggreeneggic.com
