She lived in capital letters.
Al Carmine in his Eulogy for Marion Tanner, model for Auntie Mame
That's quite a compliment, I think.

If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.
Jimmy Buffet
A year or so ago when my mother and Ned were here for an extended visit while we were finding someone to help them back at their house, things got more than a little tense. Something or other struck me SO funny one night while we were eating supper and just I started laughing...a great big belly laugh. I laughed so long and so hard that tears were streaming down my face. I finally got hold of myself and felt so much better...it was amazing.

Charm is a glow within a woman that casts a most becoming light on others.
John Mason Brown
This quotation just makes me want to be the most charming southern belle in the world....I like the idea of casting a becoming light on others because the glow then reflects back on you and that is FAR better than putting someone down. I've been practicing this a little bit with a difficult coworker and I'll declare...it seems to work on that individual AND makes me feel better about myself. Holding on to bitterness can be toxic to everybody...the older I get the more I realize that a bad attitude just doesn't accomplish anything...NOT that I'm perfect...I have my moments but I'm REALLY trying...How about you?

What great quotes and I totally agree with the last one. You seem very much like a charming southern belle!
ReplyDeleteI have emailed you and posted my answers to the valentine questions on my blog.
Thanks for being my partner. You bleed orange and I bleed red :-)
I need a good belly laugh I think! I cant even remember the last time I had one!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree. Bad attitudes are no good. No matter the position in our lives, we can choose whether we will face it with a positive attitude or not. Being negative IS a choice. And an unhealthy one at that. Not saying that I am perfect I DEFINETELY have negative moments...but if you let them become more than that you only hurt yourself!
Laughter is amazing medicine. Recently we had the kids do skits, and one of the skits included a girl who went to the doctor because she couldn't stop laughing, but the more she laughed, the more I laughed, and so was everyone else in the room, it was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post!! So inspirational.
ReplyDeletethose quotes are lovely, thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat Quotes!! I want all them to be true of me too!
ReplyDeleteAll three of those are fabulous quotes!
ReplyDeleteGreat!
ReplyDeletelove #2... :) soooo true.
I am Mr. Happy here at work. I love it when the "down" people ask me why I am so darn happy. I just answer...Why not? I can brighten the attitude in almost any room but sometimes there are those difficult ones that are bent on being in a bad mood. Their loss I say.
ReplyDeletebelle, i love all three quotes; and each took me to a different place in my own life as i thought about it's meaning...
ReplyDeletei think i like the last most, though, as i am working on that right now in my life:)
much love,
dani
I like that first quote... but I had to laugh when I thought of how our society/technology has changed things - now when you live in capital letters - ARE YOU SCREAMING? :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a rather small audience these days. But I have noticed projecting a happy attitude definately has an effect on how my kids behave. So I smile even when I would like to strangle them.
ReplyDeletegreat quotes, belle:) i loved all three and the place they took me to in my mind as i thought about each!!! i really like the last one, though, because it's relevant now... as i'm working on being that kind of southern girl, too.
ReplyDeletelove,
dani
I love all of those comments! Jimmy Buffett is one of the smartest men in the entire entertainment industry, and makes much more after over-head than any pop-tart you can think of. He is a very wise man, often overlooked, but still very wise.
ReplyDeleteI like the quotes that you have chosen.
ReplyDeleteAs a teenager, I kept a notebook of quotes. My children think I am weird enough, so I don't think that I need to share that fact with them.
I left you a Meme over on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI received a comment from my original valentine swap partner Suzee. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI love the Jimmy Buffet quote. Maybe that is why I am always laughing... to stave off the insanity :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the quotes, but my favorite is the last one. So true!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Kat
