Legare is Having a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

The sun usually shines pretty brightly on old Legare, but today he is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

I don't like it very much when either of my children has a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I want to fix things, and the older they get the harder it is to do that. In this case, there's nothing I can do but listen and encourage patience.

Darn this economy...UNC denied his application for in-state tuition for this year. He did everything they said to do, including working in-state this summer for not a lot of money. He has 14 days to appeal so that will be taken care of first thing tomorrow morning.

Darn this economy AGAIN...the job market for law students is severely depressed. He's had some good interviews with top notch firms but the wait for call backs has him sitting on pins and needles. This is the kid for whom everything has always fallen into place pretty easily. Learning the life lesson that we can't always control everything and that things don't always happen the way we want when we want is a tough one.

Say a prayer for my sweet baby boy that he'll be able to dig deep for patience (and for the in-state tuition AND a job!!!).

  1. That is tough. My babies are small, so life lessons haven't really entered our realm yet (and are just now starting to for my 3 year old). I hope tomorrow is a good, wonderful, charming, full of sunshine day for him and his in-state tuition will be granted.

  2. I will def. pray for him. And for YOU mom! I know how you feel - you are suffering more than he is for sure. We always do as moms, don't we?

Good things happen to and for good people. And this is just a sign that something better is coming for him!!

  3. I am praying that things turn around for Legare and that things work out just fine for him. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you. As Moms, when our children hurt, then we hurt. I'm sure things will work out just fine. In the meantime, it sounds like a test of patience for Legare. Love & blessings from NC!

  5. That's absolutely terrible about the in-state tuition deal! I'll be thinking about your family!

And, no, I haven't read any other novels by Mary Kay Andrews, but I am LOVING Hissy Fit!! So, I'll definitely want to try some more of her work.

  6. Here's hoping all of the powers of persuasion he has learned in debate hold him in good stead tomorrow. It is so hard not to try and jump in and "fix" things - Cait's going through a few trials this semester with a particularly nasty band director - but it does us proud when they manage to "fix" things by themselves. Keeping a good thought for him! Kathy

  7. I'll say a prayer for your sweet baby boy while I'm saying a prayer for my sweet baby girl! She goes to Arizona State and is having a heck of a time getting in-state tuition herself. She stayed there all summer, got a job and everything, yet they've denied her too! It's never easy is it!

  8. I have always rescued my kids from all of the bad things and I realized I did them a disservice by doing this. He will eventually find something until the economy clears up and it may not be his dream job but I don't know very many people who have a dream job. It is what he makes it and with his positive attitude and a sense of humor, he will get through this. All this being said, I am praying for him!
You did a wonderful job raising him and he will be fine.

  10. Poor Legare, he reminds me a lot of myself at his age. Things always worked out beautifully and when they didn't I wanted my Daddy to fix it, ASAP!

    Doesn't work that way.

He will for sure be in my prayers.

  14. Oh honey I am right there with you. my son left for college and he has had a terrible horrible not so good week. I know we are supposed to let go and encourage and let it all work out, but i can't help it, it just makes my heart break in two. Hope things go well for your son!

  15. My daughter went through fighting the in-state tuition thing on an undergrad level. It was really troubling, because she lived on her own in the state for the required time, and they still didn't believe her. She did eventually get it straightened out, as I am sure your son will. It is just rather aggravating when you play by the rules, and still get screwed.

  18. We are in the same boat with in state ~ I'm really getting fed up with "following the rules" only get set back ever further! Nicholas may end up coming back to Connecticut if we don't get in state. He is not at all happy about this idea!

  22. Prayers for Legare! I also have a 2L son who is sweating the job market. According to a recent article in the NY Times, their class is getting the worst of this recession :((
