We invited our friends Tom and Ann over for dinner and a movie on Valentine's Day. I decorated the dining room with lots of candles...pillar candles on the table and floating candles in containers with beautiful camellias from our yard. We enjoyed spring mix greens and beet salad, chicken piccata, and Barefoot Contessa coconut cupcakes with a nice Kendall Jackson chardonnay and Gevalia Costa Rica Peaberry coffee.
Tom and Ann hadn't seen THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME, The Big Chill, in a long time so we moved to the den with our dessert and coffee and enjoyed the movie while was also enjoyed a nice fire. It was a nice relaxing night...What did you do?

Beautiful pictures! What a fun time!
ReplyDeleteMmm, your dinner sounds delicious, especially the salad. Beets are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the Big Chill in ages. I remember buying the soundtrack as a Mother's day gift for my mom. This is awful to admit, but I opened it and copied it onto cassette, before I wrapped it for her gift. It is strange the things I associate with movies.
Your dining room is gorgeous. I love when I can honestly say that, instead of pretending to like someone's decorating.
Our night featured me falling asleep while watching a movie. I was dressed in fetching ensemble of two sweatshirts, one being my husband's, sweatpants, and heavy socks. It was too cold for romance.
Sounds like you had a lovely Valentine's Day. Your table looked so beautiful! And I wish I had one of those cupcakes right now!
ReplyDeleteAnd what a great choice of movies. ;-)
Here is what I did not do:
ReplyDeleteValentines's Day
Oh my word those Coconut Cupcakes look divine!! Are they homemade?
ReplyDeleteYour table settings were so beautiful! I love the Big Chill!
I tagged you for the iPod Shuffle on my blog

ReplyDeleteYes, my birthday was everything I hoped it'd be.
I'm so blessed.
Your evening sounded like lots of fun.
Everything looked so pretty and it sounds like the dinner was delicious. I'm sure Tom and Ann enjoyed the evening and appreciated the effort you put forth.
Nice to meet you!

ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous! Sounds like a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteI had the best time with hubby- who surprised me with roses waiting on me when we got to his parents. We had fresh Gulf shrimp (aka the best ever!) and all kinds of desserts. What a great day.
Everything looks fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteI will keep my eyes open, we don't have any high end grocers in my town but they do where my sisters live.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely evening!
ReplyDeleteWOW... I haven't watched The Big Chill in years! LOVE the music!
We went shopping and then we sat around and I fixed a nice meal. We bought a big orange flag that I am sure you would love. I will get a picture posted soon.

ReplyDeleteBig Chill soundtrack is one of Bram's favorites. Poor kid is going to have the dorkiest taste in music.
Beautiful photos! I have never seen the The Big Chill, so I will definitely check it out based on your Best Movie of ALL Time recommendation. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Belle! Thanks for stopping by and checking on the Simpkins Family. Love, love, love you decor and the meal sounds delish! So glad you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, everything looks so wonderful! The coconut cupcakes look delish! And I love all of your decorating. I am sorry it has taken me so long to come for a visit.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful setting in a lovely dining room! I would love to see more entertaining ideas from you...I know you probably are the hostess with the mostest! Thanks for sharing:-)
ReplyDeleteIs The Big Chill really a great movie? I've never seen it, but if you say it is, I'll add it to my list!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I didn't have to do anything for V-Day, since I was halfway around the world from my husband. It was great! But I'm a lazy dork.
Your dining room is beyond gorgeous. I loved looking at the pictures. I want to view them again and again and soak up all the goodness.
ReplyDeleteIs that forsythia? Is it blooming in SC? I am so very jealous.
What a wonderful way to spend a love-filled day.
If I send you my address will you invite me for next Valentine's Day?!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks stunning.
