Musings...and Restaurant Reviews

1.  Last Sunday we had lunch at Husk, the newest restaurant jewel in the crown of one of the BEST food cities in the world...Charleston.  I am in awe of Chef Sean Brock and his commitment to fresh local ingredients. I do believe Husk may be our new "go to" place.

2.  On the flip side...New Year's Eve EVE, we went to The Woodlands. Located in Summerville, we've been there at least 25 times over the last ten or so years...always a treat...until New Year's Eve Eve. New owner, new chef.  Kudos to the chef. To the owner, DUDE, you'd better do something fast. The service was beyond awful. The female wait person was without a doubt the rudest wait person we have ever encountered...there or anywhere. I called the next day to complain. The dining room manager was apologetic and asked me to send him an e-mail because he wanted to be able to communicate with us and would be extending us an invitation to be his guests at Sunday brunch.  I sent the e-mail.  NO response...no invitation...

My advice to you if you're in the area...don't go to The Woodlands. I'm sad to say that we will not ever darken the door there again.  Sad for The Woodlands that I'm going to tell everybody I know since the restaurant manager declined to follow through as he said he would.

3. Hank and Ned are on their way to Clemson for the basketball game against Florida State.  They hopped a ride with Ned's housemate Bryant and his dad.  I'm sure Ned will be exhausted as he usually gets up about 9 AM and this morning had to get up about 6 AM. It will be well worth it.  Lunch at the Esso Club...ball game...ice cream (the BEST in the world) at the student center, then back toward home. I'm jealous...and I'm kicking myself for not putting a camera in Hank's hand.  This will be Ned's first EVER trip to a college basketball game.

4.  My Saturday...coffee and blogging for awhile this morning.  I have some work to do for a class I'm taking but I just might save that for tomorrow...fiddle dee dee and all that...and go out and shop some.  It's looking like it's going to be a beautiful day here in the lowcountry.

What are you up to?

  1. I am coffee and blogging too with a mix of feeding the dogs, laundry and maybe a bit of shopping myself. We might get to 60 today and it has been 25 all week so I am thrilled!
I fire my servers if they give bad service.

  2. Good to hear about Husk! Have to put that one on my list.
Hate to hear that about The Woodlands! Used to be one of my favorite places to go! We haven't been there in well over a year...I'll have to put the word out around here!
    Have a great Saturday!

  4. I am anticipating the high temp of 69 today!! Whoot Whoot!

You know, when businesses deal with a blogger, instead of them telling an average of 12 people of their disatisfaction, they could be telling triple that or 36 times that! Poor service beware, there are bloggers everywhere!

Have fun anticipating the fun stories to come back from the game!

  5. Sorry to hear that one of your favorite places has gone downhill. No matter how good the food, bad service and management will kill a restaurant quicker than a bad health inspection! Can't wait to hear the stories that come out of the basketball game, I'm sure there will be some doozies! Sounds like you have a nice relaxing day planned, enjoy! Kat

  6. Too bad about the restraunt. PLEASE send me their address, I think they should read this post (the restraunt review part) from your blog, minus the blog owners address.
I'm laying in bed wondering what in the heck possessed me to attempt that stupid "Turbo Jam" workout on DVD. The title alone should have been a red flag. I knew I was too old to attempt that kind of abuse, but I did it anyway and now I feel like I've been hit by a Mack truck. I'll stick to my walking thank you.

  7. I just keep thinking I need to plan a trip to the South. How can it be that I've traveled through India, been to China, lived in England, and NEVER visited Charleston! Must remedy. Soon.

  9. Good intel on Woodlands - what a shame for such a renowned restaurant to be staffed by such incompetents. Thankfully you have no shortage of great restaurants to choose from in that area!

  10. It's been a bummer of a week for me, but I'm glad yours has been good. Wish we lived close enough to try HUSK.

    Hugs,

  11. I'll have to try Husk the next time I am in Charleston. In fact, my girls and I would love a Charleston fix this year! One of our favorite places. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. You are not a bad blog friend. We are just all so busy these days. I love reading blogs, but life has just been so busy lately. Enjoy this beautiful spring-like weekend. Love & blessings from NC!

  12. Nothing better than a cup of coffee and a little blog hoping. We are in over our heads with snow ... another foot coming next week. Wish I were in the south {for many reasons} to try Husk. Sounds wonderful!
