The Easter Bunny

Legare and Lorelai aren't going to be here for Easter this year. Their spring breaks happened back in March and they don't even get Good Friday off, so the long travel time home as exams are looming is just not going to work for them. Lor and her roommate were invited to Atlanta to spend the holiday with a friend and Legare is hunkered down in Chapel Hill getting ready for exams.

I'm a little bit sad because this will be the first time since Legare's first Easter in 1987 that there won't be a "child" in the house for the Easter Bunny to visit. As Hank and I sat in the sun room the other afternoon talking about it, a couple of little teeny tiny tears started to well up in my eyes. As usual, Hank tried to put it in perspective for me by saying..."For goodness sake, you can't expect them to drive all the way here when they're so busy just for a few little BUNNY things." He's right...and I don't...but here we are at another MILESTONE...

The Easter Bunny WILL arrive as usual and L and L will have something wonderful to look forward to when they get home in a couple of weeks. I'll just have to substitute Hank and Ned on Easter morning...I wonder if they'll let me take their pictures with their Easter baskets.

I couldn't resist ending with the pouty face photo of Lorelai below. She must have been about seven years old and was so ill tempered when she got up on Easter morning that we wouldn't let her have her Easter basket until she changed her attitude and got dressed for church. As you can see, she is dressed but the attitude doesn't appear to be a lot better. It's amusing now...not so much then...

We're off to the farm. Have a wonderful weekend everyone...I'll be back on Sunday.

  1. I won't be home for easter this year (first time ever) and I know my mom is sad not to have an excuse to do Easter baskets and dye eggs (even though I'm 26!). Hope you have a happy Easter anyway!

  2. Your childrens' photos are adorable. The pouty face brings back memories. Oh, wait, I just had an older child with the same expression, sit next to me in the car. Mean mommy made her do a bit of last minute grocery shopping.

Last month when we visited Allie, I brought her Easter basket goodies, including the egg dye, and the vinegar. She laughed at the mustard and Miracle Whip, but I know she likes to make deviled eggs, and I have no idea what she keeps in her pantry. This her third Easter living over 1000 miles from us...still weird!

    Happy Easter!

  8. I wont be home for Easter either!! Though I am "home" in South Carolina with my Dad's family...well it just doesn't feel like home unless it's your Mom's home. But don't tell Dad...he'd be crushed. Anyway but no Easter Basket here :( But of course when I go to Mom's in two weeks, mine will be waiting for me there! :) YAY! Mom's are the best!!

I hope Ned let's you take a picture with his Easter basket too!! I feel like I should tell you to tell him hello for me! haha, I have been so excited for him and his new living space! You'll have to update us after you see him on Easter!

    Happy Easter!

  13. Happy Easter! Love the photos ~ we too have had few less than perky Easter mornings trying to get everyone ready so we can get to church on time.

This is my first year as well without my son home for Easter. The trip from North Carolina to Connecticut was just too much for a short weekend. The house is very quiet this morning and there is one less basket on the table {I did however send his to him last week with a strick note not to open until Easter morning} and it just doesn't feel the same.

Enjoy your time with Hank and Ned.

  14. It's so hard, on the holidays especially, to be without the ones we love. I'm learning that now that I live so very far from my kids and family. So I know about those little tears. I'm so sorry you are sad too! I hope you have a lovely Easter anyway.

  16. Not having them home for Easter must be challenging; I love that Ned and Hank get the duty though! The picture of Lorelai looking a little perturbed is wonderful!
