Slow Down

As things would have it, this week has been a dilly...I'm slap worn out. I was looking through some books on the shelf in my office recently for inspiring words for some teachers and came across a book of quotations and ideas by the name of Think Good Thoughts, Do Good Things by Nicholaus and Lowrie.

I was intrigued by the following idea...

"Celebrate a 'Slow Down Week.”'That’s right—a 'Slow Down Week.' Do everything at a decelerated pace from what you are used to—drive slower, walk slower, eat slower, speak slower, think slower…SLOWER is the word to remember. See if you can maintain this mindset beyond one week. And always keep this thought in mind: On life’s highway, spend more time in the right-hand lane!"

I don't know if I know how to slow down...in this day and age to do things more slowly seems to imply laziness or incompetence or inefficiency. But I tell you what...I'm exhausted from trying to keep the pace. I think I can drive, walk, and eat slower...maybe even speak slower...it's the thinking slower that's the hard part.

Is anybody out there willing to take the challenge along with me? How do you feel about it? Is life moving too fast for you? Think you can slow down? How are you going to do it?

  1. I am going to enjoy my Saturday. I'm going to a card making party and hope the day lasts twice as long.

    Enjoy your weekend. :)

  2. I think I am already slow. LOL! Not mentally! But, I like to take my time with things in a lingering kind of Southern way and sometimes this drives people (like hubby) a little crazy! I wish I could get hubby to slow down. He does (almost) everything in warp speed!!! At least we balance each other out!

  3. I love the idea of slowing down but when I make this attempt, I begin to panic that I am getting behind ~ odd I know. I do enjoy the times that I step away and spend quality time with people in my life that are dear to me. Why is it that I feel quilty if I do that too often?

This is worth a little self reflection.

  4. To be honest, I feel like if I slow down my world will turn completely upside down. I will try to slow down. I will take my time to do everyday things instead of rushing to get them done. In other words, I guess I will take a second a breathe. I'll let you know how this works out. :-)

  5. That's such a great idea. Unfortunately, though, I do live in slow motion. I'm never overly busy, because I know nobody in this city, my kids don't either, and I don't work.
    My life is S L O W!

  6. I would love to slow down but I am not sure I can. I was born running.

Thanks for the reminder though. We all need to do more flower smelling.

  8. I know I feel like I need to slow down too, just scared I'll putter out! LOL! In some ways I already feel like I'm going too slow...I guess time is just passing too fast. Anyway, I hope you get some good rest.

  9. Thankfully, it rained here today so it slowed us down. We were spared another trip to the pumpkin patch! That's how we slowed down.

  10. I would love to live slow, but with the kiddo's schedule right now it is IMPOSSIBLE!! But I am determined to be more organized and not so scattered so hopefully that will eliminate the "need for speed". Will take those moments to just step back and breath! Thanks for the challenge!! And thanks for stopping by! Have a great rest of your weekend!!
