- First and foremost, we'll meet at a restaurant so that we can eat, drink, and be merry while we discuss the book of the month.
- In the event that a book club member would like to host in their home, that is perfectly fine; however, nobody should ever feel put upon to host.
- Any member who doesn't attend a meeting can expect to be talked about by the other members of the group. We made an exception last night for the one member who wasn't there since we only made up the rule last night after cocktails and he didn't have proper notification that he would be talked about. (Now you know, buddy...now you know.)
- We'll rotate the task of choosing the next book and will discuss where we'll hold our next meeting before we leave the current month's meeting.
- If a member drops out, the remaining members all have to agree on who to invite to take said member's place.
- As part of the book discussion, each member will highlight their favorite passage and read it out loud to the group WITH FEELING!!
- We'll make up additional rules as we feel the urge to do so.
REVIEW of the restaurant, Med Bistro...Good. I had a nice salad and brown butter seared scallops with risotto and brussel sprouts. We liked the atmosphere for our purposes. Ordinarily, it would have been a little loud for me but it was a perfect setting for our enthusiastic discussion.
Next month's read is
Next month's restaurant...Bowen's Island.
This sounds like a lot of fun. Your dinner sounds delicious. Hope you will have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteNow that's the kind of book club I could get into! Love those rules!
ReplyDeleteI just read Ford County and really enjoyed it. We "KNOW" some of these characters!!!
Here's a rule: What happens in Book Club, stays in book club.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great book club. I'd love to be in one!

Sounds like the most fun ever!! I'd love that. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love your posts where you share your meals. You have great taste in food.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you will enjoy the future book choices. Lately, I am not reading any books that excite me.Today I picked up Double Fault by Lionel Shriver. I still have nightmares from reading We Need to Talk About Kevin, and The Post-Birthday World comes to mind when I am having sex, so I have high hopes for this book leaving an impression.
I doubt I would be good in a book club, as I tend to not know when to close my mouth.
Now this sounds like my kind of book club! Thanks for the heads up about the latest Woods book. I'm almost through with South of Broad (love it, but then, I would read a cereal box if Conroy wrote it), and can't wait to read Ford County. I'm anxious to hear your take on it. Kathy
ReplyDeleteDon't you love bookclub? I certainly do and ours is meeting this coming Sunday night...the book, "Stealing Buddha's Dinner." I was a member of a ladies bookclub in Palm Springs. We had soooo much fun and our food and decorations were all coordinated with the book of the month. Word got out and people were begging to join. We decided eight was the max amount of ladies, so when I left Palm Springs, people were scrambling to get in...even MEN, I promise you! My new bookclub here in Florida is fast becoming the talking of our neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I love that you are in my area! Med Bistro has a yummy brunch too. Just a heads up!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to be in a book club, but don't think I would have time for it. I only seem to have time to read books when I have a school vacation (because I have to read the whole book right away if it is a good one).
ReplyDeleteLove your rules! :)
Oh, how I miss my book club. Can't wait to read more about yours!
